    Grant Construction are backing National Lorry Week taking place from the 26th October to 31st October.

    National Lorry Week is an initiative created and driven by the Road Haulage association, promoting the huge contribution that lorries make to our daily lives.

    The aim of the campaign is to give the road haulage industry and truck drivers the recognition they deserve for the essential service they provide. The chief executive of the RHA Richard Burnett said, “We have a huge impact on the lives of everyone in Britain, but sometimes that positive contribution is overlooked. National Lorry Week will provide us with an opportunity to reach out to the public and politicians as never before to highlight our massive and positive contribution to daily life.”

    This is the point that is often missed when the national TV, radio and newspaper press report about trucks and truck drivers. Many stories focus on the negatives such as cyclists being killed by trucks, trucks causing accidents and creating delays on the motorways. This campaign aims to change that perception by showing the positive contribution made by trucks and truckers to the UK economy and our daily lives.

    During the week’s awareness campaign, hauliers across the UK will be opening their doors and inviting the public to see for themselves how the industry keeps us supplied with food, clothing and all the necessities we take for granted.

    In addition people will be encouraged to consider the road transport as a possible career path and find out about the career opportunities in the industry.

    Other activities during the week will include the RHA inviting high profile media figures to try their hand at the wheel and to spend a shift working with a driver. In addition, there will be a nationwide radio campaign throughout the week. Also watch out for a TV documentary featuring BTCC and RHA-sponsored racing driver Tom Ingram.

    The most visible part of the campaign will be the “Love the Lorry” campaign stickers, which will be seen on trucks throughout the country. Hauliers will be asked to display a ‘Love the Lorry’ sticker on their vehicles to coincide with a nationwide ‘spot the sticker’ competition, where members of the public will be encouraged to tweet pictures of lorries to the RHA. The winner of the competition will win a fantastic prize worth £1,000.

    We encourage all our friends and colleagues to join in the fun by spotting lorries carrying the “Love the Lorry” stickers and tweeting them to @RHANews with the hash tags #NationalLorryWeek and #LoveTheLorry saying why you Love the Lorry.
